Shoutout of the Week: Sherria VanSparrentak

Sherria Van Sparrentak, a dedicated and passionate educational leader, is making a profound impact as the Head of School at The Montessori School. With her unwavering commitment to fostering transformative learning experiences, Sherria is redefining the possibilities of Montessori education.

Sherria’s educational journey began in her hometown of Kalamazoo, where she pursued her teacher education program at Western Governors University. Then, she furthered her knowledge and skills by obtaining a master’s degree in Educational Leadership focusing on K-12 principalship from Western Michigan University.

Her career path led her through various leadership roles within public schools for about a decade. During this time, Sherria implemented teaching methods aligned with Montessori principles, focusing on hands-on, student-led, and outdoor learning environments.

However, it wasn’t until she was offered an opportunity to interview for a Montessori school that she discovered a perfect match for her beliefs and teaching style. Her initial meeting with the school’s board validated her intuition that this was where she belonged. Embracing the Montessori philosophy, Sherria found everything she had always believed in and advocated for. With this, she began her journey of Montessori training and professional development, furthering her expertise in Montessori administration.

Sherria’s commitment to providing students with authentic, student-centered learning experiences sets her apart as an exceptional leader.
