Nathan Stevens is now in his second year as Head of School at Immanuel Christian School in Alexandria, Virginia. With over 22 years of experience in education, he brings strong leadership, deep care, and a clear vision to the school community.
Helping Teams Pause and Reflect
Stevens leads with an idea he calls “practice reflection.” It means taking time to stop, think, and ask important questions before making big decisions. What are we doing? Why does it matter? Is it helping us live out our values?
This habit is helping the team grow stronger and stay focused on the school’s mission.
Building on What’s Already Strong
Immanuel Christian School has been around for almost 50 years. Stevens stepped into a role where a great deal of work had already been done. The school now features a high school with some exciting additions, including international travel opportunities for every high school student and daily Bible study to start the day.
Stevens sees his role as building on that strong foundation and helping the school continue to grow in the right direction.
Putting People First
Stevens’ advice to other school leaders is simple:
“Learn about the people you serve.”
He believes that strong leadership begins with strong relationships. When school leaders understand their people—students, teachers, and families—they can lead with more heart, clarity, and care.
