Lorraine Hewitt, the founder and head of Dominion Ridge Academy, is an inspiring leader in education. Since 2006, she has worked hard to build a school where every child can succeed. Her school is known for its Christian and classically-based approach and its focus on including students with special needs.
From the very beginning, Lorraine made sure that the school’s inclusion program would help students with special needs thrive. With support from the National Institute for Learning Development, this program offers one-on-one therapy and helps students feel part of the classroom. Even after COVID-19 caused more students to need extra help, Lorraine has committed to ensuring everyone feels included. Her motto, “teaching all to teach all,” shows her belief that every child deserves to belong and succeed.
Lorraine also worked hard to overcome the challenges of COVID-19. She focused on taking care of her teachers, providing professional training, and creating a strong school community. As a result, Dominion Ridge Academy is now fully staffed and ready to meet the needs of its students. Lorraine’s ability to attract and support great teachers has helped create a positive and caring environment at the school.
Outside of academics, Lorraine has made sure students can explore sports, arts, and other activities. The school’s archery program has been nationally recognized, and its drama program draws audiences of over 1,000 people. From chapel bands to after-school sports like volleyball and basketball, Lorraine has created many ways for students to shine.
Lorraine’s leadership also goes beyond her own school. Through a new program called “Bridge Education,” she helps other schools improve their special education programs. This effort has already reached schools in places like the Cayman Islands. It helps other schools grow and ensures that Dominion Ridge Academy can keep thriving.
Lorraine’s guiding belief is that “our product is a life.” She focuses on helping children grow, supporting teachers, and creating a community where everyone can succeed. Her work at Dominion Ridge Academy is a powerful example of what outstanding leadership can achieve.
