Shoutout for This Week: Building Schools That Last With Ty Fischer

Ty Fischer has led Veritas Academy in Lancaster, Pennsylvania for 28 years. Veritas is a classical Christian school and a charter member of the Association of Classical Christian Schools (ACCS). Fischer also serves on the ACCS board. When he arrived, the school had 26 students. Today, it has over 400. Through this growth, the mission stayed clear: “to cultivate loving, serving, thinking students.” He asks teachers to make daily choices that support this mission in simple, practical ways.

Building a Culture That Lasts

That focus shows up in how Fischer builds culture. He hires teachers who love Christ, love students at a specific age, and love the subjects they teach. He works to align teachers, parents, and students, as shared values make learning stronger. Each morning, he greets students by name to show that people come first. The results are showing. This year, Veritas welcomed its first alumni who are now enrolling their own children in kindergarten. Fischer often says real success is not at 18, but at 80—graduates who live well in faith, family, and work.

Planning for the Next Generation

To ensure this work remains strong for years to come, Fischer has developed a succession plan that trains future leaders and clarifies the roles and responsibilities of the board and administration. He also encourages the school to expand on the “business” side—budgeting, fundraising, and governance—without compromising its heart for the Gospel and its students.
As classical Christian education has grown from a few dozen schools to hundreds nationwide, Fischer’s aim remains steady: to keep the mission clear, protect the culture, and prepare the next generation of leaders so that Veritas can serve families well for generations to come.
